Practical Skills

CV Writing

A CV remains is a crucial marketing tool for everyone. It not only presents all the key facts, it is also an opportunity for you to make an impact.

CV Hints:

The team at Real Life Skills use workshops or one-to-one meetings to explain what is needed in the CV and to suggest a layout. Getting started can be quite an obstacle for young people, particularly when they don’t understand what is expected of them. We provide an email review service to offer feedback and editorial advice.

Covering Letter

Some job descriptions are very particular in terms of what they are asking the candidate to demonstrate and the covering letter is the perfect opportunity to do so. But, a bit like de-coding a hidden message, you need to know what to look out for. Other times the covering letter may be speculative in which case it needs to charm the reader into wanting to meet the author. The team at Real Life Skills ensure the young person understands how to show their true colours while responding appropriately to the letter. We offer email review to help avoid common mistakes (and to check spelling!)

On-Line Applications

As an increasing number of large employers use on-line systems a special patience and skill is required to fill in the forms. We help with practical suggestions and strategies.

Preparation for Interview

If the CV, covering letter or on-line application have done their job the candidate should be invited for an interview. These can be very intimidating occasions, but with the right preparation and research really give an individual a chance to make an impact. The team at Real Life Skills try to make sure the young person understands what is expected of them in terms of presentation, dress, body language and behaviour. We can also organise practise sessions.
